Head of Oncology Biomarker Development and Companion Diagnostics, (VP) Genentech Research and Early Development
We are looking for an accomplished, influential, scientifically driven and strategic leader to head the function of Oncology Biomarker Development and Companion Diagnostics (OBD-CDx) within the Development Sciences Organization at Genentech. Development Sciences (Dev Sci), a global translational organization, is a critical part of Genentech’s Research and Early Development Group (gRED) as it plays a significant role in development of Genentech/Roche Products. The OBD group is accountable for development and execution of biomarker strategies for Oncology programs for gRED and also for the Late Stage Oncology Clinical portfolio for Roche. The CDx group is responsible for development and execution of companion diagnostic programs, strategies, plans and management across all therapeutic areas. The leader will be accountable for enabling Pharmacodynamic and Predictive Biomarker strategies for all Oncology programs, developing a future outlook and vision for OBD-CDX, and leading a global organization of 100+ individuals. He or she will also be part of the Development Sciences Leadership team, reporting to the SVP of Development Sciences.
Additional Responsibilities include:
• Collaborate with heads of Research and Clinical Oncology to ensure programs are biologically sound and are in alignment with diagnostic and biomarker strategies. • Enable scientific, strategic and operational excellence of the OBD organization and Biomarker sub-teams in Oncology. • Strengthen the scientific impact of OBD on Early and Late stage development projects by forward and reverse translation of biomarker data • Identify the need to adjust and if needed drive change of the Oncology Biomarker Strategy and Organization to enhance value creation for drug development projects • Represent the OBD organization on key governance committees in Research (RRC), Early and late development (DRC) for decision making on biomarker deliverables. • Ensure that the Companion Diagnostic team delivers CDx plans for all programs • Ensure consistent partnerships and collaborations with other functions across gRED, pRED, PD, Medical Affairs, and Commercial. • Ensure strong and consistent partnership and collaborations with Roche Diagnostic units. • Be an engaged and participative member of the Development Sciences leadership team. • Provide transparency for allocation of Biomarker sub-Team resources to projects and activities and drive prioritization of activities for the best benefit of our projects and portfolio while balancing resourcing needs. • Develop internal talent by creating and providing opportunities for scientific, functional and technical leadership, project responsibilities, matrix leadership and people management • Create an attractive and inspiring culture and environment in order to attract and retain talent
Who You Are
Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements: • Ph.D. or M.D. /Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology or related fields with strong experience and expertise in science. • Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in a science based organization leading biomarker and diagnostic efforts. Proven scientific leadership. Strong background in cancer biology, cancer genetics and immunology • Proven track record of hiring, developing staff and building successful teams • Proven track record of innovation as evidenced by patents, publications and products • Excellent leadership capabilities with demonstrated skill in building, guiding and motivating effective teams and fostering productive collaborations • Outstanding communication and partnering skills
