Job Description
This position encompasses a dual role of Senior Director of Risk Management and Senior Director of Patient Safety:

- The Senior Director of Risk Management reports to the General Counsel and is responsible to oversee the Risk Management function through the design, development and administration of processes intended to reduce the frequency and severity of events that create potential exposure to the organization.

- The Senior Director of Patient Safety reports to the Chief Medical Officer and is an internal resource to improve performance, accelerate action, and create advancements in patient safety and clinical redesign, based on active clinician engagement, knowledge and ownership.

-Develops and coordinates vision of the strategy plan for Patient Safety. Oversees system-wide patient safety initiatives. Assumes a leadership role in the ongoing efforts to strengthen the integration of patient safety standards and promote clinical transformation within the system. Oversees completion of assigned projects including the development of state and national award applications for quality and performance excellence. Acts as a change agent to lead, facilitate and support the improvement of clinical and service quality for hospital and medical staff.


Requirements
License Certification: ARM (Associate in Risk Management) or HRM (Healthcare Risk Management) certification required. *Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required, health care related degree preferred. *Advanced Degree in risk management, health care administration or law preferred. *A minimum of 12 years of directly related experience with at least 5 years of progression within leadership roles. *Minimum 3 years experience in health care risk management preferred. *One to two years of quality improvement experience to include consultation or direct work in process improvement or rapid cycle improvement , systems thinking concepts, team facilitation, performance measurement and/or stratification of data preferred. *Content expert in quality improvement concepts. *Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to negotiate collaborative efforts with other departments to implement patient safety standards and guidelines. *Ability to problem solve, make independent decisions, formulate reports, perform statistical analysis and interpret data. *Demonstrated proficiency in or ability/interest in learning Microsoft Office Products. *Evidence of participation and completion of education in healthcare safety courses from organizations such as IHI, AHRQ, NQF or equivalent preferred. *Experience evaluating and managing insurance coverage for a medium to large size organization. *Experience managing litigation or pre-litigation claims, including setting reserves, conducting investigations and acting as liaison with defense counsel. *Skills: Knowledge of patient safety principles and application to risk management processes, problem solving skills, excellent written communication skills, excellent communication/interpersonal skills, able to work independently and with initiative.
