Description

I. Position Summary: This position supports the mission of North Suburban Medical Center by optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Safety Officer develops, implements and monitors compliance with Patient Safety, Life Safety, Environment of Care, EH policies and procedures, and other applicable regulatory standards to ensure a safe environment. The Safety Officer is responsible for Emergency Management planning and preparedness, including supervision of the Incident Command Structure. Conducts inspections and handles emergency situations related to safety and environmental health. The Safety Officer has the authority to intervene whenever conditions immediately threaten life or health or damage equipment or buildings. When needs arise, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications::

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Hospital safety professional certification preferred.

B. Education: Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene or related field preferred

B. Experience: Three to five years experience in Patient Safety, Environment of Care and Life Safety preferred. Experience must be in an acute healthcare setting.

C. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal, state and local codes and regulations related to Safety. Requires good verbal and written communication skills when dealing with a variety of internal and external customers. Excellent analytical and research skills for investigating and reporting.
