This is a senior professional level position responsible for the instructional design and the principles of adult learning with an understanding of applications-based program development and knowledge of validation methods. We expect unwavering leadership and decision-making skills, the ability to multi-task, delegate appropriately and effectively and readiness to solve problems. This Director must have well-honed management and coaching skills (including relationship- and team-building) that are necessary to direct and develop staff and volunteers.
This director must have a firm grasp of all aspects of program development (in various media), including educational design, content development, event planning and production, project management, resource management, and quality control.
This Director will work with the corporate and chapter boards, volunteers/volunteer leaders, speakers and staff on the planning, development and execution of profitable, quality conferences, local chapter events, online learning, meetings and other initiatives related to learning and professional development. JOB SCOPE: • Ensure that all HBA educational products and services are delivered to members on time, as promised, according to HBA expectations, within budget parameters, and with maximum profitability.
• Work closely with HBA senior leadership to identify learning opportunities, develop business cases, and lead a successful pitch effort to the Board.
• Serve as a key instructional designer expert for the HBA, providing committees and teams with innovative training solutions; direct idea generation and creative program development toward meeting the HBA mission and members’ learning objectives.
• Continuously examine policies, procedures, structures, quality-control measures, completion-time data, and internal and external resources to identify new ways of improving learning products and services, reducing costs, and increasing profitability.
• Set an example of leadership, loyalty, dedication to excellence, and commitment to superior adult learning:
• Manage the development of educational programs, activities, and documentation, including supervising activities of related committees and team members
• Provide support to board members through positive relationships, strategic consultation, and proactive development of new learning opportunities which support strategic imperatives
• Write, edit and/or oversee all project management-related and committee and team member correspondence/documentation, including planning documents, timelines, project status reports, etc.
• Participate in new business outreach and presentations regarding new adult learning initiatives , including requesting RFPS, responding to RFPs and developing business cases
RESPONSIBILITIES AS THEY RELATE TO: • HBA Mission : - Initiate strategic discussions/build internal HBA awareness around current professional development trends, identification and characterization of unmet leadership development needs of professional women, and emerging trends in talent management, skill building and leadership training. - Guide strategic discussions toward the development of an overarching tactical plan to meet the professional development needs and requirements of professional women in healthcare as well as the supplemental programmatic needs and requirements of corporate sponsors to the HBA. • Annual Leadership Conference - Apply strategic direction to the definition and execution of the leadership conference. - Oversee the workshop selection and plenary speaker selection to ensure quality educational content and strong business networking experiences. - Manage selection and contracting with speakers and subject matter experts. - Coordinate with the staff Director of Marketing & Communications to promote the conference content and produce onsite program and post-event supplement. • Chapter Events: - Serve as subject matter expert to continuously raise chapter event quality, find ways to reduce volunteer workload through centralized (when appropriate) content development and speaker access. - Lead and/or facilitate functional calls with chapter program directors. - Apply strategic direction to the 18 month plans for chapter events and programs then review/approve chapter events as part of the 18-24 month strategic and operational plan and prior to posting for online registration. - Oversee the coordination/standardization of pricing, content, logistics, sufficient lead time, and best practices across chapters. - Work with event management staff to ensure compliance of legal forms. • Program Oversight - Serve as the professional staff representative overseeing education on the Leadership in Practice team and relevant business development teams. - Build and oversee the online resource library on the website. - Develop a business case and then plan, create and maintain a speakers' bureau. • Volunteer Education: - Contribute to the annual Leadership Institute team as regards to content/adult education approach to ensure that volunteers receive quality training on their roles and how to optimize use of toolkits and other resources. - Work with volunteers to develop and make volunteer training available online. - Oversee toolkits to ensure the responsible directors keep them up to date and migrate/advance to better tools/approaches whenever possible. • New Education Offerings - Identify and field ideas for new programs and educational offerings and drive content design and development. - Recommend ways to increase net profit by increasing revenue sources for education and events or realize efficiencies for cost savings. - Participate in membership satisfaction survey team to ensure questions on education provide necessary feedback and chapter event surveys to understand customer needs for training, education and industry information and how to plan/run events better. • Process, Reporting and Technology Management: - Stay current on technology-based education products, both used by HBA and potential products. - Identify a way to establish standards and coordinate promotion of online offerings.
