To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by\: obtaining and communicating Surgeon's request for instrumentation and implants to the surgical team, in turn improving the flow of the surgical schedule and improving the care of the surgical patient and to support the Department goals and Lean Initiatives.
Ensures that appropriate quantities of specialty equipment, instrumentation and implants are available for all surgical procedures and ensures broken and/or faulty instruments are repaired in a timely manner.
Communicates with vendors and physicians to obtain equipment for procedures and Capital equipment quotations.
Coordinates and performs clerical and manual tasks involved in the receipt, verification, storage and issuance of tissue and preparation of related records.
Maintains records and logs for tissue and implants as required.
Follows Health First policies and procedures. Adheres to all regulatory and licensing agency guidelines such as AABB, FDA, AAMI, AORN, etc. related to role as surgical coordinator.
Has strong clinical knowledge of surgical procedures and the items/supplies utilized in surgical procedures.
Maintain clean and orderly work area.
Attends continuing education programs/staff meetings/ huddles per manager requirements.
Participates in designated committee meetings.
Utilizes Health First computer systems with regards to order entry, order inquiry, charge items, viewing of documentation and charges including but not limited to SIS, Optiflex and PeopleSoft.
Supports and adapts to changes in hospital functions, management expectations and unit routines and provides support as back up to Surgical Inventory Specialist Associate.
Supports Health First philosophy of people-centered caring.
Acts as a liaison between surgeons and provides equipment necessary for each case.
Responds to critical situations promptly and professionally.
Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team.
Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for department/medical center and/or written compliments by patients/others.
Verifies patient charges using implant records and non-stock requisitions to ensure capture of chargeable supplies and tracking of implants.
Assist Manager in working toward product standardization and the elimination of product duplication.
Assists other departments (i.e., Anesthesia, Endoscopy) in finding and ordering/requesting supplies and standardization of products.
Identifies cost saving initiatives in specialized equipment, materials and supplies.
Maintains inventories and operates within budget; reports cost variances.
Participates in annual inventory.
Coordinates with charge nurse to maintain availability of supplies for surgical procedures.
Responsible for vendor room oversight (timely return of non-Health First, Inc. owned inventory).
Responsible for Vendor Management program, badging/education/regulations and reports vendor non-compliance to the applicable office for action.
Provides management analysis of product usage on a monthly basis, assist management in budgeting process.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds

Demonstrate continuous concentration on an activity to prevent errors.
Ability to multitask and set priorities in order to complete all requirements for scheduled surgeries.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions from both clinical and support staff.
High School diploma or equivalent required, Associates degree preferred.
Two year's hospital experience in surgical services (i.e. Operating Room) or surgical materials management required.
Able to speak, read write and understand English.
Must hold a current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain it.
