The Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) is the designated responsible physician who is physically present in an inpatient facility during periods when the regular medical staff is not on duty. These periods generally include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, but coverage may be required in other special circumstances. The MOD will provide the full range of medical care to acutely ill patients, sub-acute hospitalized patients, urgent care and palliative care patients. The position will require flexibility in order to ensure coverage of all patients. The MOD will provide acute disease and chronic disease management, along with preventative care services in primarily an inpatient and urgent care clinic settings. Prevention of disease, early detection of disease, and disease management in patients will be performed in a patient-centric and team- based model of care delivery. Coordination of care with primary care, specialty care and Other members of the patient's care team are critical to ensure optimum health and the delivery of efficient care; smooth transfer of patient care between the lntra-facility and inter-facility levels of care, including local hospital transfer proper patient education and maximal patient satisfaction. Preferred Board Eligible/Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. The duties of the MOD include, but are not limited to:
* Provides medical services to Veterans on an inpatient basis and an outpatient basis in the Urgent Care Clinic. Inpatient provision of care includes medical ward patients.
* Participates in the provision of Pain Management, Mental Health, and End of Life Care to Veterans as required.
* Participates in the use of clinical practice guidelines, provision of standard of care to patients, and meeting relevant performance measures as mandated by Veterans Health Administration.
* Reports quality of care issues promptly through established mechanisms.
Work Schedule: Various shifts, 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, weekend shift 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM (Compressed tours, may be required to work some evenings and weekends)

Citizenship of the United States.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of a residency trainingor its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) before the starting date of the position. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). The ACLS requirement is satisfied by attaining, and maintaining, current status through an approved AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. No online certifications will be accepted.
Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently to move objects. This could include moving objects such as pieces of equipment and assistance in moving clients.
